The Hirth joint bolt to hold the two halves together is also titanium to save another few grams. It is beautiful and strong, and now it is even lighter. This search for lightness goes further than the spindle. They have removed the chain ring nut from the fixing equation. The rings are attached to the connecting rod by five alloy bolts that go through the large ring and thread directly onto the small chain ring, easier and lighter. Let your eyes stay on the chain rings. Look closely at the change pins. There, you will find the first sign that the rings have been redesigned for faster change. Campagnolo calls it its XPSS, eXtreme Performance Shifting System. There are now eight sectors dedicated to upshifting, with ramps and pins working in tandem with a new dental profile. But above is only half the story. They have also optimized two new down-shift sectors, with the new tooth profile working with ramps on the downward path. The Campagnolo Super Record 11 Speed Ti Carbon crankset has carbon fiber one-way cranks with dark gray anodized chain rings and black bolts. The two halves of the drive shaft are connected by a reverse threaded titanium screw. Campagnolo CULT (Ceramic Ultimate Level Technology) ceramic bearings are installed on both arms.
